INSIDE BOOKS PROJECT Work Party & Book Sale
FRIDAY, Sept. 25th, 6pm - Midnight& SATURDAY, Sept. 26th, 10am - Midnight
at SPACE 12, 3121 E. 12th St. (and Airport Blvd.)
Work Party: Inside Books is currently about 3 months behind on responding to requests for books from inmates in the state of Texas. Time for a Work Party!
Over two days, volunteers will respond to these requests by writing letters and picking out reading material from our library of over 10,000 books. We will also be prepping these packages to go out to the post office: taping them up and putting postage on them. Bring friends! Come by for an hour or stay for the whole party.
There will be snacks! We have generous donations from East Side Pies, Texas Coffee Traders and others to keep our volunteers happy while we get things done.
Note: We always, always need donations of Large Manila Envelopes, Packing Tape, Paperback Dictionaries (English & Spanish), and books in Spanish.
Book Sale: Throughout the Work Party we will be selling books to raise much needed funds for postage. These are books we've been collecting for the last year. Many genres are covered: Fiction, History, Sciences, Biography, Underground Fiction and Literature, D.I.Y., Art, Spirituality/Religion, Gender Studies, Radical Politics and Movements, Comics & Graphic Novels, Sexuality, Books Banned by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Most books will be $5 each, others are $1.
If you are unable to come by our work party but would still like to help out, please consider making a donation to IBP to cover the cost of sending these books. Each package costs roughly $3 to mail, so a donation of $15 will send 5 packages to Texas inmates. We are aiming to get over 500 packages to the post office after this action-packed weekend, so every little bit helps!
